Can You Put Sea Monkeys in a Fishbowl
I bought my son a sea monkey kit, and we had a lot of fun growing them together. I put together a tutorial with tips on growing your own!
How to Grow Live Ocean Monkeys
For my 5-yr-old son's birthday this year, I decided to become him some bounding main monkeys. I had the pleasure of owning ocean monkeys when I was a kid, and I remember being very excited about them! I was happy to have them, and they actually did very well—until one day the little aquarium fell to the floor, along with everything in it. That was a very lamentable day for me, but now I accept some more than! Ahem, I mean, my son has sea monkeys, and I was more than happy to assistance him become them started.
New and Improved Body of water Monkeys
These are better than the ones we had back in the day. These new and improved "hybrids" grow larger and are guaranteed to alive upwards to 2 years. There are also lots of additional accessories and supplies to purchase for those with a sea monkey obsession. You can get medicine, assistant treats, growth stimulator, mating pulverisation, and lots more! You tin even get a cool lite-up aquarium for them now.
Many places have body of water monkey kits for purchase. I got this i at Wal-Mart in the toy department. The kit does come with instructions, but I decided to go ahead and share them once again here. You never know when someone might demand instructions on how to grow these amazing live sea monkeys!

What You Need:
Yous volition need the sea monkey kit, which is the actual tank; inside will be a minor measuring spoon and three packets:
- Packet 1: Water Purifier
- Packet ii: Instant Live Eggs
- Packet 3: Growth Nutrient
In addition to the kit, you will need some distilled drinking h2o to put into the tank and a plastic spoon for mixing the water in your tank.
Step 1: Fill the Tank
- Take your empty tank and pour in the distilled water upwards to the "full" line that is on the side of the tank.
- Have packet #i, which is labeled Water Purifier, open it and pour all of it into the tank.
- So have a clean plastic spoon and mix that around in the tank for about one infinitesimal.
- Put the chapeau on it and let it sit for a total 24 hours. (Too contained in package #1 is a underground hatching goad!)
We didn't have a plastic spoon to mix ours, and then we used a clean straw. I don't think it matters as long as whatever you use is clean and everything gets mixed upwardly, but they do recommend using a plastic spoon.
Step 2: Add the Eggs
- Now that 24 hours have passed, open bundle #2, which is the Instant Live Eggs, and cascade the entire contents into the tank.
- Later you empty the packet, stir briefly.
- Then you can hold your aquarium up to the sunlight or a potent light and you should see something that looks similar wiggling picayune dots. Those are your baby sea monkeys . . . some will start hatching immediately!
- Now that you take added the instant live eggs, put the lid dorsum on and enjoy seeing your sea monkeys grow. You don't have to do annihilation else for some other five days.
Though you should see some hatch instantly, hatching times volition vary depending on the temperature of the h2o and likewise the thickness of the eggshells effectually the body of water monkeys. Thinner shells hatch quicker than thicker shells, and if the water is cold, it will take them longer to hatch. Read the helpful hints that come with the kit; it explains all the different things you will want to know.

Stride iii: Feed the Sea Monkeys
Now that v days accept passed since you added the alive eggs in packet #2, information technology'south time to start feeding your sea monkeys. Their food is what is in packet #3.
- Take the double-concluded measuring spoon that came with the kit. You lot will notice it has a small measuring spoon on one end and a larger one on the other.
- Use the smaller measuring scoop to measure out the food for your ocean monkeys. On the bundle, information technology says to feed them 1 level small-scale scoop of food from parcel #3 and put that into the tank.
- Afterward this, according to my inquiry online, information technology's best to feed them every v to seven days.
Discrepancies Between the Food Packet and the Website
On the back of packet #3 (food packet), it says to feed them every two days, only after researching online, I noticed that well-nigh people feed their sea monkeys every 5 to 7 days. Also, on the sea monkey website, information technology says to give just half a small scoop to the sea monkeys each feeding.
I don't know why the package says 1 level minor scoop and the website says half a small scoop, just I've decided to just give our body of water monkeys half a pocket-size scoop every week. Information technology seems it'south better to underfeed than overfeed them, and ours seem to be doing fine with information technology. Of form, it's up to you about how much you want to feed your own; I just wanted to point out the discrepancies that I found and what seems to be working all-time for u.s. and then far.
Continued Intendance for Bounding main Monkeys
Cloudy Tank
Sometimes, the h2o may get cloudy in the tank. If this happens, it means there is too much food in the tank. Merely stop feeding them until it clears upwards, and then kickoff feeding them once a week.
Where to Get More Food
The food in the bundle should last a good while, just if yous start to run low, y'all can purchase more ocean monkey food at Toys 'R' Us, pet shops, or online several places. You tin too get annihilation y'all need for them (plus boosted supplies) at the official sea monkey website.
Fun Facts Near Body of water Monkeys

Mark E. on Baronial 05, 2018:
Practise not employ tap water under whatever circumstances. Boiling h2o volition impale bacteria, viruses and protozoa only will not get rid of any chemicals ordinarily establish in municipal tap water such equally fluoride, chlorine, ammonia, etc. For that you would need a reverse osmosis filter.
If you do non take distilled or bottled water then rain water would be your adjacent best pick (and yes I would boil it only to be safe).
